Syrinx 2.0 Released

May 7th, 2009 Mickey 22 comments

After what seems like an eternity, Syrinx 2.0 has emerged from beta and is available to all.  It’s been out for a little over 24 hours now and the response has been great.  Lots of good feedback is going through the Twitter timeline.

Many thanks are due to the many people who beta tested 2.0 and sent in bugs and feedback.  This major release could not have been successful without all your help and support.

For this release I did something new: a Press Release via prmac.com.  I’m interested to see what impact that has on the amount of exposure Syrinx receives.  So far it seems like it has spread quite well.  Now if I can catch a review or two in some well read Mac websites we’ll be on our way.

Looking forward I think the new timeline architecture is really going to give me a strong base moving forward.  I have lots of ideas I would like to implement and users have sent me even more ideas.  I’m excited to see where Syrinx grows from here.  When I first published Syrinx it was one of only a few native Twitter clients available for the Mac.  Now we’re inundated with clients, each more polished than the last.  So far I think Syrinx’s unique feature set, especially Pause and Bookmark are really keeping it a little separated from the rest of the clients.

I’m also looking forward to exploring the iPhone development platform, and  I’d like to spend some time working on NameChanger.  Also, I’m headed to WWDC this year, it’ll be my first time.

It’s a busy summer ahead, but I look forward to it and producing some more great software.

NameChanger 2.2.1 Released

December 6th, 2008 Mickey 11 comments

We are at last all settled in our new home, and I’m back online.  I’ve managed to catch up on my emails, thanks to all of those who were patient with me while I relocated.  Today is the first day I’ve had to sit down and do some MRRSoftware coding, and I turned my attention to a bug that was reported againstNameChanger where applying certain saved renames didn’t work as expected.  Sequence/Replace Entire Name and Remove Characters were among the saved renames that were experiencing problems.  These have since been fixed and I’ve pushed out NameChanger 2.2.1 this afternoon.  Enjoy!

NameChanger 2.2

August 23rd, 2008 Mickey 5 comments

That’s right, on the heels of Syrinx 1.0.1 comes NameChanger 2.2.  This is a solid usability update for NameChanger.  I started by updating the UI, I’ve dropped both the “Original Text:” and “New Text:” labels that lived just under the toolbar since NameChanger debuted.  They’ve been supplanted by default text within the appropriate text fields.  This gives a nice tweak to the UI and really streamlines it.  I have also changed some of the animations when dealing with Append/Prepend as well as how those fields behave during resize.

After that I integrated Quick Look.  Pressing space bar will preview the selected file just as it does in the Finder.  Unfortunately Quick Look is still a Private Framework, so I debated wether to include it, but in the end I went “Whatever is best for the app”.  This framework gets loaded dynamically at runtime, and if it is not found for any reason(such as Apple moving it), NameChanger will continue to function normally albeit without the Quick Look ability.  So all in all I think it was a reasonable and safe move.

Lastly I added inline name changing.  For too long has NameChanger existed without the ability to individually change file names.  That wrong has now been righted.  Double clicking or pressing return on a row will now allow the user to change the filename in place.

This update is available through the built-in Sparkle updater and has been submitted to the usual suspects: MacUpdate, VersionTracker and Apple Downloads.
