Syrinx 1.2 Released
Well the beginning of the week came and went without a Syrinx release, but it’s finally here. This release, as with 1.1, was built from user feedback. 1.2 really clears out a lot of user requests I received that I felt were important, as well as fixing the HTML entity parsing bug.
I’m happy first that I got this release out, and secondly that I can start building in some bigger features for the next release. The next release will not be as immediate as 1.1 and 1.2, it will take longer but have larger features in it that really help further separate Syrinx from the competition.

Looking forward to it…
It may be worth mentioning on the site that the software appears to be 10.5 only. I downloaded it on my machine only to be disappointed that it would not work.
Josh – I will add that to the website, thank you for the suggestion.
I think Syrinx is fantastic! I love the native OS X look, contrary to most other Twitter clients (like Twitterrific). I have two requests, though:
1. Can you please start a Syrinx-related Twitter account where you post updates about Syrinx development and (more importantly) where you can gather feedback about Syrinx from your users? That would be awesome.
2. Can you make the font in the listing configurable? I like to sit far away from my monitor and think the default font is a bit tiny. Being able to adjust it would be really great.
I think Syrinx is great as well.
I’ve been using it for two days and it may supplant twhirl. I had one question. I had input a URL for a site that I knew would fit into the 140 character limit, and it was automatically shortened. I thought, “Great, this is what I’ve been waiting for.” Now when I do it, it doesn’t. Am I wrong? Syrinx doesn’t shorten long URLs? Because to do it automatically, without any intervention, would be fantastic.
@Asbjørn – I currently use the SyrinxApp twitter account for testing(that’s why it’s protected, because it’s all just test messages). The best place to follow Syrinx related development is right here on my blog. Feedback can be left here or emailed to me. Font sizes are on my enhancements list, but its lower down in priority than some of the features I currently have planned.
@Steve – Syrinx does not automatically shorten URLs. I have noticed that sometimes twitter does it, but I’m not sure how they decide when to do that.
I completely agree, Steve! Automatically shortening of URL’s (that would be shortened by Twitter because of its length, but not those that wouldn’t) would be awesome. If one could choose (like in Twhirl) what service one would like to use to shorten the URL’s, that would be fantastic.
Instead of having a “shorten URL” button like in Twhirl, though, it would be leaner to just put the URL shortening service provider option into the preferences and shorten all URL’s over a certain length automatically (in-place). That would indeed be a killer feature!
Okay, I’ve now subscribed to this blog and I’m looking forward to reading about Syrinx updates in the future!
I’m excited to try out the next version of Syrinx and hope you will consider my comments in a not too distant future.
With regard to Twitter’s shorteing of URL’s, I think it’s just a matter of character count. If the URL is above a certain lenght (I don’t know the character count), it is shortened. If Syrinx just implemented an a bit more agressive algorithm than Twitter on this (shortening URLs before Twitter does), it could work rather seamlessly and the shortening service chosen in Syrinx would be used instead of Twitter’s default; TinyURL.
i installed syrinx but i have a weird problem. when i post a message it shows me the wrong date in syrinx and i dont get messages from other people.
any idea what i might do wrong?
@ddrei – I haven’t ever seen or heard of that problem before, but I have received a few reports of the API being screwy on Twitter’s end. Hopefully they will get it straightened out soon.
hm, it works fine for a few friends of mine so i am not sure if twitter is the problem.
